Last week I was lucky to be in the exactly in the right place at the right time!

I arranged a few days of travel to Madrid for meetings and a Christmas dinner with friends.  By chance on that exact date I heard of the launch of a new English book shop that a friend of mine was opening in the centre of Madrid.  Nottingham folk certainly pop up in the most varied locations….

On Thurs 12th December Offside Madrid had it´s Christmas opening event. I was able to witness the launch of this new International book shop in the Santo Domingo district.

The location of the shop is very close to Gran Vía, literally a few streets away from the busy shopping area. If you get the Metro to Santo Domingo, the street where the book shop is can be easily found.

Mark Nessfield the owner of the business, welcomed groups of guests with festive treats such as homemade mince pies and sausage rolls with a good selection of drinks too.

Writer Sid Lowe was there too, (above left) supporting the launch by signing his book Fear and Loathing in La Liga. As an Ex Barça season ticket holder I had plenty to discuss with Sid about Blaugrana and the league battles with Real Madrid. I didn’t speak to him for long as there was quite a queue for the autographed books.

If you have a football mad person in your family this book would be a great gift for them. I´ve read rave reviews of the book online although I haven’t managed to read the book yet myself.

At this friendly book shop you can buy English books and also sell and trade in your good quality used books too. Soon they will have a comfortable seating area to have a coffee or tea towards the back of the store.
I´m already looking forward to my next trip to Madrid to see the new books they have in stock in Spring 2014.
